The picture above shows the color of this alexandrite when viewed in daylight. The photo to the left shows the changed color under an incandescent lamp.
This is an excellent alexandrite oval originating in India. It is fairly well cut, showing a fair amount of fire in every light, but with a medium to large window. The moderately saturated color glows a lustrous grassy green in sunlight and fluorescent lights, and turns a deep purple with reddish highlights when viewed under a standard incandescent light. This gem readily exhibits nearly 100 percent color change even under very bright "natural" incandescent lights.
The stone is nearly flawless to the unaided eye, but under extreme magnification numerous crystal points and rutile inclusions can be seen. A couple of feathery fracture inclusions and a tiny two-phase inclusion prove that this stone is completely natural.
