The picture above shows the color of this alexandrite when viewed in daylight. The photo to the left shows the changed color under an incandescent lamp.
This lovely alexandrite oval is from Sri Lanka. It is relatively well cut, showing a fair amount of fire in every light, with only a small window. The moderately saturated color glows a lustrous grassy green in sunlight and fluorescent lights, and turns a deep purple with reddish highlights when viewed under a standard incandescent light. This gem readily exhibits nearly 100 percent color change even under very bright "natural" incandescent lights.
The stone contains inclusions visible to the unaided eye, as is expected of natural alexandrite. Many of the inclusions seem to consist of flat crystals that reflect light easily and actually add to the brilliance of this gem.
