The picture above shows the color of this alexandrite when viewed in daylight. The photo to the left shows the changed color under an incandescent lamp.
This is a lovely alexandrite oval is from Sri Lanka. It is fairly well cut, showing a fair amount of fire in every light, with a fairly small window. The moderately saturated color glows a lustrous grassy green in sunlight and fluorescent lights, and turns a deep purple with reddish highlights when viewed under a standard incandescent light. This gem readily exhibits nearly 100 percent color change even under very bright "natural" incandescent lights.
The stone looks flawless to the unaided eye, and remains exceptionally clear even under magnification. Its most distinctive features are a faint chatoyant sheen that can be seen at certain angles, and a few very tiny but distinctive inclusions near each end of the oval. This is an extremely rare and fine example of natural alexandrite.
