How Do I Use This Service?
The entire process from the time you send your stones to us until we inspect your finished gems and send your invoice takes about three months. Four weeks of this time is taken up in transit between the United States and Sri Lanka. The rest of the time is used to fit your order into the cutting schedule and to cut and polish your gems.
To start, you should send us an email with any questions you may have. We will answer as completely and accurately as possible. This is an important step, since we will be assuming full responsibility for your rough gems. We want to be sure we treat them right!
Once you are satisfied that you want to use our service, you will need to pack your rough. We recommend that you pack each type of stone into its own ziplock bag or other light, sealed container. If you have stones of the same type that you would like treated in different ways, you should separate those as well. Label each package with your name, the type of stone, and the total weight in carats. You may want to count the stones in each packet and note that number. Add a unique number or code to help identify each packet.
You will need to provide cutting instructions for each packet. State whether you want the stones cut as cabochons or faceted gems. If cabs, we will need to know if you want high, medium, or low domes. For faceted stones, it is a good idea to specify the minimum acceptable clarity grade. If you need particular shapes or sizes, specify them. If you just want the largest stones possible, but do not care about shape or size, you can ask for "best yield."
Don't fret too much over the cutting instructions. Just ask for what you want. If anything is unclear to us we will contact you to get it right before sending your stones to the cutters.

We recommend US Postal Service Priority Mail. It's quick, inexpensive, safe, and includes parcel tracking.
When we receive your stones, we will weigh them, count them (yes, count them!) and briefly examine them to ensure that your cutting instructions are reasonable and complete. We will contact you for any clarifications, or if we note a discrepancy. We will then repack them, fill out some government paperwork, and send them off to Sri Lanka by US Postal Service International Priority Mail.
We will notify you by email when we send your stones out, and again when they arrive in Sri Lanka. You will get another email from us when the actual cutting begins, and another when the stones are sent on their way back to the United States. When we receive your finished gems, we will send you an itemized invoice and a request for payment. We accept major credit cards or PayPal. Once payment is recieved, we ship your gems to you by Priority Mail, and you will have them within three business days.
Total elapsed time from mailing your rough out to receiving your gems at your door will be about 12-14 weeks.
