Faceted Oregon Sunstones

When we had these Oregon sunstones faceted, we expected some decent gems, but these are fantastic! These stones have clarity, liveliness and fire that one would expect in a gem costing hundreds of dollars per carat.

Most of the color in these Oregon sunstones is due to copper schiller. Schiller is a special type of inclusion common in sunstones, consisting of microscopically thin platelets of copper metal. In well cut sunstone such as these, the schiller enhances the color of the gem, sometimes even producing a false color change effect.
